Safari Club International (SCI) keeps trophy statistics for the ibex worldwide. Their record book shows that the highest scoring billies taken anywhere in the world by Rifle, Muzzle Loader and Bow were taken in New Mexico. Within New Mexico we have guided 5 of the top 6 bow kills, 87% of the guided bow kills, 54% of all bow kills (guided or not) and 35% of all the ibex entries (any weapon) in the book. Only nine percent of the entries are attributed to other outfitters that are still in business. That’s why people hunt with us!

As a reference we’ll use the non-resident’s draw odds for a rifle license (which are very low if applying without an outfitter’s number) as a basis for the content of this paragraph. Then, with an outfitter’s number, the draw odds are still about like those for a bighorn sheep (less than 1
percent). Add the muzzle loader hunt as a second choice and you triple your chance to draw.

Due to the large number of bow tags, you are over 58 times more likely to draw an October bow tag or over 22 times more likely to draw a January bow tag if you include one or both of those on your application. Total harvest success averages are, for all practical purposes, identical on the two bow hunts.

With us you could kill several ibex with a bow before drawing a rifle tag. Despite rumors to the contrary, short bow shots are possible for billy ibex. On the October 2019 hunt, four of our hunters took shots at mature males standing in the open under 40 yards.
